What an LIU does
An LIU (light interface unit) is a rack panel where a fiber cable is terminated. The cable enters at the back, each fiber is fusion-spliced to a pigtail in a splice tray, and the pigtail connectors plug into adapters on the front. Patch cords then run from those adapters to the equipment.
A loaded LIU comes with the adapters and pigtails already fitted, so only the cable splicing is left for the site. A sliding LIU has a drawer that pulls out for splicing and maintenance. FMS (fiber management system) is another trade name for the same kind of rack panel.
How to order
- Give the port count, for example 12, 24 or 48.
- Give the adapter type and polish, for example SC/UPC or LC duplex.
- Say single-mode or multimode, loaded or empty, and sliding or fixed.
- Send the quantities and delivery city on WhatsApp or through the quote form below.
Common questions
What does 24F mean?
The panel terminates 24 fibers, so it has 24 ports: 24 SC adapters or 12 LC duplex adapters.
LC or SC adapters?
LC fits twice as many ports in the same space, which suits data centres and SFP-based equipment. SC is common in telecom and FTTH.
Do the pigtails have to match the cable?
Yes. Use single-mode pigtails and adapters for single-mode cable and multimode for multimode, and match the polish at every joint.
